What is pepero day?

Pepero Day is a popular observance in South Korea that is celebrated on November 11th each year. The day, which is similar to Valentine's Day in western countries, is dedicated to giving and sharing Pepero sticks with loved ones, friends, and colleagues as a sign of affection and good wishes.

Pepero sticks are thin, chocolate-covered biscuit sticks that are produced by the company Lotte Confectionery. They come in a variety of flavors such as chocolate, almond, strawberry, and cookie and cream.

The origins of Pepero Day are unclear, but it is believed to have started in the early 1990s when students exchanged Pepero sticks as tokens of friendship and love on November 11th, given that the date 11/11 closely resembles the long, thin shape of the Pepero sticks.

On Pepero Day, people exchange boxes of Pepero sticks as gifts and use the occasion to show appreciation to their loved ones. The day has since become a popular marketing event for confectionery companies in South Korea, with various promotions and special editions of Pepero sticks released to coincide with the holiday.
